Following on from the last post, John Stevenson, who is writing a series of articles on this blog, pointed me to http://www.photoattorney.com/, which contains great information. A blog by a lawyer, Carolyn Wright, there is great information here for those with questions about the various laws and how they apply to photography. Note that it does cover things from a US perspective.

The Right to Take Photographs
Posted by Wayne under Law , Business , Creativity , Digital Art , PhotographyNo Comments
On one of the lists I am on someone posted a link to a great website in response to a discussion of people being stopped from taking photos when there is no legal right to do so.
The link is here to Bert P. Krages web site. He is a lawyer who is also a photographer and has prepared a PDF document of your rights to photograph that you can carry with you incase of problems. It is for the US but a link to one for the UK is on his site.
Worth a look in this age of extreme paranoia and tendency to deny anything.

PhotoArtCanvas - a short intro

A Series of Articles About the Development of a Photography Business
To introduce myself first, I’m John Stevenson, of Colorado Springs in the fine state of Colorado in the U.S.A. And Wayne has very kindly decided to let me write some invited contributions to his blog for a while. I’m in the process of going into business, as PhotoArtCanvas (actually - legally - as Photoscena LLC d/b/a PhotoArtCanvas) and that will be what I’ll be writing about here, at weekly intervals or so.

I also shot this parkland with hirise behind in IR using a Canon 350D/Rebel XT, a Hoya R72 filter and an exposure of 15 seconds at f5.6 and 100ISO, using a Tamron 18-200mm lens.

I’ve been noise testing cameras, both in IR shooting and normal, and took this shot using a Hoya R72 filter and an exposure of 2 seconds at f2.8 and 80ISO.

Well, life has gotten in the way of creative activities since the last post, with the exception that I’ve been doing some substantial noise testing on the Nikon D200 and the Canon 350D. I’ll be posting them soon over on DIMi and I’ve also decided to post the RAW files so people can go look for themselves if they want to.

Tonight I shot the moon with my Canon 100-400mm L series zoom on my Canon 350D. I’m pretty happy with the result. Exposure was 1/125 second at f11 and 100ISO, with lens zoomed to 400mm.

Splintering of Personality - latest art work
Posted by Wayne under Photoshop , Digital Art , Art , Photography[4] Comments
Below is the latest photomedia piece I have created, called Splintering of Personality, and a series of detail views of small sections of it. The original is quite dark and very large, sized for 2 metre by 2 metre square. It is part of my Road to Elysium series and explores the concept that traumatic events cause the death or splintering off of parts of our selves or souls.

I’ve added a new section on DIMi at http://www.dimagemaker.com/specials/cameras/camtests.php
where I will place camera noise test articles and TIFF files of center sections of the images so that people can judge for themselves the camera performance. I’ll be adding a lot more over the next week. I managed to screw up the Canon 350D TIFFs the first time but have now corrected them.

Here are some more infrared photos from that shoot on Friday. All taken with a 350D and a Hoya R72 filter.
